Where To Go To Relax When You Are Stressed
Ahhhh, it’s been a long stressful day and I’m longing to relax in a sauna or with a massage. But I have no appointment and probably won’t be able to get in for either at such short notice. Think again! Planet Beach is an automated spa, where you can show up for spa services almost anytime you want. An appointment is recommended but only to reduce your wait-time for a service, but getting in the same day is pretty standard.
Let me tell you about my first visit to Planet Beach in Glendale AZ. I first went online to find the location nearest to me and completed a form asking if I could come in that afternoon. “Tara” (name changed) replied via email within minutes, welcoming me to come in and experience the spa. I showed up at 1:30pm where I was greeted by Tara, a friendly face and someone any franchise owner would love at their front desk. She was approachable, pleasant and proceeded to inform me of all the services offered. After I completed forms and asked a million questions, I decided to try out 3 spa services. I started with a hydro-sauna, something that would replenish some moisture to my dry skin. It is a full body hydration service and it was just what I needed. Tara gave me a complimentary sauve to apply to my body prior to starting the sauna. She offered 3 different kinds of sauve, one for weight-loss, one for eliminating toxins and one for, if my memory serves me, increasing collagen. I opted for the weight-loss sauve. After brief but complete instructions, I entered the pod. It was a 20-minute session and the temperature went up to an exhilarating 118 degrees(F). Your head remains outside of the pod, so the experience was very tolerable. There were headphones available for listening to music as you sweat away the toxins. I was soaking wet as I exited the machine but a towel and robe were available to me, so I wiped down and prepared for my next service. A convenient tote is available to carry your clothes and other personal belongings as you move from room to room for each session. My next treat? A massage.
Now, I am a huge advocate for massage therapy and for myself, I schedule regular massages with a therapist. The thought of sitting in a massage chair didn’t excite me too much because it couldn’t possibly compare to the hands of a masseuse….could it? But I was pleasantly surprised at how effective that chair was in hitting my pain-points. From the bottoms of my feet, up my calves, thighs and hips, then my rump, lower back, up my spine, middle back and shoulders, forearms and even my neck, this was truly a full-body massage. I still won’t compare it to a human, hands-on experience, but for the price, this was definitely a fantastic alternative. Every time my husband sees a massage chair advertised in magazines or sees one at the mall, or on T.V., he always expresses his desire to having one in the home. I definitely do NOT want, nor do we have room, for a massage chair in our home. If I get him some sessions in a Planet Beach massage chair, will that satisfy his desire or will he want one at home all the more? Hmmmm.
At this location, I had an added bonus to the massage chair by also having a facial at the same time. This is a luminous facial that uses light therapy to improve your skin, from reducing wrinkles and dark circles, evening skin tone and texture, to improving elasticity to the skin. The white contraption you see in the picture to the left was placed over my face during my massage and a very bright light was turned on. No eye covering was needed as I was assured there would be no damage to my eyes. Although the light was extremely bright and I was instructed to keep my eyes closed the entire time, it was not uncomfortable. It’s claim of looking younger, healthier, and more refreshed was not readily evident to me with only one session, but with regular use, it may be possible. I will need to return for more sessions and report back to you.
Red light therapy was my last session this day. Now this is something that gives you no sensation of any kind during the treatment but works deep within your skin for the benefits. It uses infared light that penetrates your skin and can increase healing, improve circulation, eliminate sun damage and fine lines, reduce swelling and inflammation and can even give you relief from chronic and acute pain. With regular use, this treatment can ease muscle and joint pain and arthritis, and lower high blood pressure, so although the session didn’t have any relaxing impressions, I see the long-term benefits as extraordinary. I am starting to have some joint pain so this red light therapy just might be the answer. It was developed/discovered by NASA and is also used in the medical industry for healing purposes.
When I arrived at 1:30, I was the only customer at this Planet Beach location, so I was able to use the sessions one after another with no wait time. Other customers starting arriving around 3:30pm and a few were waiting in the lobby with their robes on. Even though no appointment is necessary, like I said earlier, it’s still a good idea to call ahead to see how crowded it might be, to avoid a long wait time. I had the luxury of attending at a time when most people are at work, so keep that in mind.
At the time of this post, the monthly membership is $69 and that includes unlimited sessions as available. Many products are sold for enhancing the sessions, but for most services you won’t need anything extra. The one exception is for the teeth-whitening….a kit is required and sells for $99 and will last for 4 teeth-whitening sessions.
My experience was A+ and I’m looking forward to going again soon….I took advantage of a holiday promotion of $30 for 3 sessions before the offer closed on 12/31. I plan to use this certificate in the next 3 months but the coupon has no expiration date. Each Planet Beach is individually owned and operated and each location may offer different services and maintain different policies, so be aware of that.
This is a franchised business, so if you are interested in owning a Planet Beach location, find out more information HERE.
